Intriguing Premise, But…
Knox Goes Away starts with an interesting idea that promises a tense, emotional ride. Directed by multi-awarded actor Michael Keaton (Birdman), who also stars as the lead, the film has all the elements of a gripping drama. With names like Michael Keaton, Al Pacino, and Marcia Gay Harden in the cast, you’d expect something memorable. But sadly, the pacing doesn’t do them justice.
The Pacing Problem
The biggest issue with this movie is how slow it is. Scene after scene drags on, leaving you waiting for a spark that never comes. It feels more like a collection of quiet moments rather than a cohesive, engaging story. For a movie with such a talented cast, it’s frustrating to see the plot meander without much payoff.
An Interesting Twist (But Is It Enough?)
To its credit, the movie does deliver an interesting twist late in the story. It adds a bit of intrigue and might make you sit up for a moment. However, it’s not enough to make up for the overall slow pace. By the time the twist arrives, you may find it hard to care because the buildup is so drawn out.
Performances Aren’t Enough
The acting is solid—Michael Keaton delivers a heartfelt performance, and Marcia Gay Harden is excellent as always. But even great acting can’t save a movie that doesn’t know how to keep its audience invested. The characters are there, but the lack of urgency in the story makes it hard to connect with them.
Skip or Watch?
If you’re a fan of slow-burn dramas and don’t mind a sluggish pace, Knox Goes Away might be worth watching for the performances and the late twist. However, if you’re looking for something exciting or emotionally gripping, I’d say skip it. The twist isn’t enough to redeem what feels like an overly long, uneventful watch.
VERDICT: SKIP!
